AC Flyer Mike is in a position to answer your quest <<steel tariff will invoke the law of unintended consequences. Does it also affect manufactured products, or just raw steel?>>, at least for the steel rivets and other widgets he imports from China and sells in the US. Chugs, Jay

Snowshoe,

Re: Does it also affect manufactured products, or just raw steel?

This is, of course, disputed by the "free trade" zealots and the unions who are to be seduced into voting Republican in November by this move.

The "free traders" are totally whiny about how devastating an impact this will have on steel consumers like the appliance makers and the car builders.

The head of the Steelworkers,

President Leo W. Gerard, stated on CNBC (Bill Griffeths was moderator) yesterday that he would expect the cost of washer or dryer to go up by about $2-3.00, and the cost of an automobile to rise by $30.00.

I have no way of really assessing either side's arguments, but I'm inclined to see Gerard as more honest.
