Re: Compaq's Athlon 1500+ appears to be a very poorly configured system (non-functional PowerNow and very weak graphics for a "$500" processor system) based on Intel thread posts on some initial P4-M reviews.

If you've bought a Compaq notebook, you'll know that the ship with a "PowerNow" icon on the desktop that must be double-clicked to activate PowerNow. If an Intel stooge is running the benchmarks, they won't click on the icon, and PowerNow won't be activated.

I bought an early Compaq P4 notebook (when the fastest available speed was 1GHZ) and it was running PowerNow without a problem. Unfortunately, there don't appear to have been significant chipset, video, etc. changes to that platform since, so I can't imagine that they've dropped support for PowerNow.

Intel's extortion program got to the reviewer or he's an utter idiot, it's that simple.
