you are not looking for profit... I know you understand this so obviously I'm missing something? oh dear...i forgot where i was for a moment...that old American center of profitability known as SI. let me explain how this book came about...on 9/11 a number of my family members called me and asked what i am doing...the questions continued day and night. i started writing e-mails to my extended family explaining my actions. i never even kept the e-mails. one of my kids did. she sent them to me and suggested i consider putting them in a short book for everyone in the family. i had sent a copy to some SF friends, an NYC detective friend, fire dept captains in LA and boston, an emergency clinic doctor, a former SWAT and professional bodyguard, and a buddy who is an A330 airbus captain. i asked for comments thinking all of our families could benefit. they all loved it and provided some ideas. i wrote a bit more. i already had a tip or 2 about water in there...then one of my nieces(an avid camper and hiker) asked for more information about water so i wrote a few more pages. when 2 or more of the original readers asked the same question, i added the answer to the book. everyone of these friends are mentioned by name and location on the back cover. then i was done. i printed some copies on my PC for my immediate family and close friends...i had help with getting the one minute fallout zone calculators made. i put them together in nice 3 ring binders and thought that was the end of it. then some of their friends saw and offered to buy a copy...the ceo of a local company saw one and offered to purchase 500 to give to their employees and customers, if i would make them into more of a book format. so i got a friend in advertising to help me design a cover. he had his staff convert the info from my PC to MAC quark format for printing. last friday as the orders climbed i realized i was going to end up cash flow positive. i called one of the officers in the US Army National Special Forces Assn office and asked him to get me instructions on how to donate the profit to the assn for use in their charities and get a tax deduction. i had a brief meeting with my accountant tuesday morning to discuss the mechanics of how get the most money to the assn without tax consequences. i suppose i should have a profit motive to really be American. but i have a very nice pension and have been quite successful in my stock and real estate investments. i also own a very profitable small business. this was an easy decision for me. America has been very good to us...i believe every family will benefit from this information. and i know the Special Forces Assn will spend every penny very wisely to benefit the needy families of our best warriors. now as more days go by and more info is released...i am becoming a nut thinking, hell why don't they just give the folks some simple ideas about how to prepare themselves and their families for the likely consequences of the attacks our leaders say are coming. last week, a USMC friend, now a federal judge, suggested i look for ways to get this info to a larger audience because he thinks it is important. i am taking two approaches. i am looking for a publisher and i am inviting the government to take over this project. you are right...i did think about putting it on-line very early in this process...but i did not know how to get the plastic tool to you through cyberspace and i did not understand the liability issues. now i know the message has value and i love the organization that may benefit. unclewest
