HPaq will wind up losing market share at a faster rate than they are now. The merger would stall the companies as HP tries to digest Compaq, and that will kill them. Dell will wind up with more market share than they have now, and the vacuum created will cause some of the larger white box manufacturers to make a play for becoming a tier 1 company. There are opportunities that will open up...

That's one scenario and a likely one, but I think that Fiorina knows how to put together a good merger. However, I am not sure though that the HWP culture will allow her to do so. They have fukked with her since she took over a few years ago.

Then again, this issue may be settled should the merger be approved and Hewlett's son defeated. That may break the back of the HWP culture. I think too that its easy to assume the merger will go poorly given the way the CPQ/Digital merger went. But, frankly, I don't think it has to be that way if sufficient pre planning is done and the CPQ acquisition proves to be accretive to HWP's bottom line within 2 quarters. Then it could knock the socks off of DELL.

It could go either way in my opinion but I suspect your way is more likely. ;~((
