Very bad idea. It's a net job looser. Each job it saves in the steel industry costs the country a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

I do understand this is politics and that's how the game is played. Principle gets trashed occasionally for expediency.

I live in steel country. This will help a Republican take a democrat Senate seat.

Yeah, I think it's a terrible idea. Protectionism nearly killed the auto industry in this country during the 70s and 80s. Quality of American cars got so bad it was a disgrace. Compete on the world market, whatever the field. We have plenty of industry that is more than competitive. If steel cannot be efficient, so be it.
