Not wishful thinking--just cold analysis(IMO--LOL). Simon came out of nowhere. Reagan had been conducting a low voltage campaign for a long time before running and was certainly no mystery. And presumably the Bush name(and politics) was fairly well known in Texas(duh!). As for Simon's voting record, maybe it's just me, but I have a low opinion of someone who neglects to exercise a fundamental civic duty and then comes along and wants to tell us all how to get it done.
