That is a disconnect in logic. Martin Luther King protested against injustice and oppression to bring awareness to people who were ignorant of the injustice and oppression that existed. He was successful.

A better analogy would be the X rated movie that came out in 1967. It had a story not just porn stars doing it on the big screen. It showed a little T and A and was designed to provoke sexual excitement. It probably would not have gotten much of a box office with out publicity. The moral spokes persons protested the movie loud and publicly. The next week and for several weeks there were lines of movie goers around the block waiting to see what would become the first of major box office successes for X rated movies of the 60's and 70's.
