Dear Pete,

what is your opinion about Paul DeMone's latest critical remarks? See especially this one:

"I think the Hammer is significantly underpipelined for a 0.13 um SOI CMOS process even considering its modest core size. I think it will run into a lot of problems with interconnect performance scaling. The EV8 also targeted a 0.13 um SOI process but the Alpha microarchitects decided they needed an 18 stage pipeline to reach 1.8 GHz target frequency. Although the EV8 is a much wider issue and physically larger device it is a RISC design and so it avoids the x86 cruft at the front end of the Hammer pipeline."
