Not exactly. SIM/RUIM card is only a card storing your account info. It will be used for authentication. Also it can be used to store your call list etc to. Nice little thing makes your life easier.

But the phone got to be able to "talk" in the GSM language on top of CDMA. And this is defined by IS-833.


My understanding is that the GSM in a GSM/CDMA1x dual mode phone would be exactly the same GSM as that in any single mode GSM phone. The CDMA1x in that phone would be exactly the same as the CDMA1x in any single mode CDMA1x phone, except for the inclusion of the SIM/RUIM card.

How specifically is that not correct?
