WBMW, FWIW, I caught Seth Tobias on CNBC this morning, and he had a considered opinion about Sun Micro in which Intel (or Wintel) influence on their markets was mentioned. His major points were:

- Sun has held on to Unix too long in practically their entire lineup of solutions. Wintel and Linux have gained ground and are hurting them.

- Sun's revenues are down 40% from their peak, but their operating expenses are only down high single digits (subtly recommending more layoffs).

- There are blade servers coming out now, which will become a factor in 2003 and 2004, and hurt Sun. I know Sun has some in the works (and some out now) as well.

Obviously, he's bearish on Sun, but when asked what he'd buy for stocks, he recommended wireless (Nextel) and Cendant.

Just one analyst's opinion about Sun that sounded a lot like what we've been saying here.

Tony

>I see you quoted Dan3's question about a possible on-die memory controller for Banias. I've never seen that mentioned here or otherwise until Dan mentioned it - and not be Tenchusatsu, either. Could Dan3 perhaps back it up with a link, or do you normally trust that guy on blind faith?<

I put only slightly more blind faith in Dan3's posts than I do those of doriangrey over at Ace's Hardware. The point is that I did read that Banias was a Crusoe killer. But just because I read it, doesn't make it so.
