Petz, Re: 40, 20, 3

I'd go for it but would prefer numbers like 20, 10, 3

or even lower -- 10, 5, 3.

And for the derogatory name, when referring to an individual -- 1, but then we'll have opinions on what is and isn't derogatory.

>I'd suggest we need a 60% vote to change the thread rules, what do y'all think?

I think that before we make new rules, we need a moderator who reads the posts. I nominate JC, if we have nominations.

John:

Periodically there are blowups on this thread and usually they work themselves out without any need of intervention by a moderator. Not an easy mix to work with given the number of strong, and in many cases, bright, personalities in our midst, and aside from the periodic 2 to 3 day binges as per the one we are currently experiencing, the thread does seem to move forward inexorably.

Mani, to his credit, has not responded to the baitings of some to him and to others, but at the same time has acted, imo, judiciously, when meting out punishment.

I suspect that the current binge will peter out over the near term, and if not, that Mani will step in.

Concerning your 3 proposals around the issues of frequency and derogatory content, I suspect, based on track record, that for the most part, Mani has integrated same into his role as moderator.

Concerning the 60% majority proposal, I'd once again leave that to Mani's discretion. If a vote is required, I'd suggest a significantly higher bar, maybe 90%...
