I think that the DOW won't average more than a 5% compound yearly return by 2012 from now on. On the contrary, I think that it will be lucky that we get a 0% return by then instead of a 30% drop in the index by 2012. I have the same feeling for the SP500 and expect that it range trades between 800 and 1000 by then.

I can't tell how much Bush government has pumped into the market to pop up the GDP growth. And all the $$ he puts in military services will have to come from our own pockets. IMHO, GDP growth has more psychological effect on consumers than on everything else.
