And he must have a face saving solution for those displaced in the 1948 wars, which IMO can be monetary compensation that can be used to rebuild the West Bank. That, I think, is the price for lasting peace between Israel and the Arabs.

Aaargh. Monetary compensation? don't you think he's been offered this already? The Israelis have offered it for fifty years, Clinton offered him billions. He refused it, just as he's never used the billions he got from the US, the EU or the Gulf to build squat on the West Bank. Arafat is not interested in building anything but armies.

After all the suffering, he cannot get less than what Egypt got

Well, Israel cannot get less than they got from Egypt, either: a neighbor who is not actively trying to kill them. One thing everyone knows for sure now is that Arafat either cannot or will not keep any deal whatsoever.

"I understand perfectly his point. I also understand perfectly Arafat's point: he cannot go back to his people with only 95% of the pre-67 West Bank or only 98% or even only 99%. After all the suffering, he cannot get less than what Egypt got. He must have 100%. Including East Jerusalem. And he must have a face saving solution for those displaced in the 1948 wars, which IMO can be monetary compensation that can be used to rebuild the West Bank. That, I think, is the price for lasting peace between Israel and the Arabs.
