>>Aaargh. Monetary compensation? don't you think he's been offered this already? The Israelis have offered it for fifty years, Clinton offered him billions.

The offer he will accept is monetary compensation as well as 100% of the pre-67 West Bank. Monetary compensation without all the land means nothing. That's why he refused.

>>a neighbor who is not actively trying to kill them.

Egypt is not actively trying to kill them now, after they signed their peace and got back 100% of their land. Are you forgetting that before this peace Egyptians had killed a lot more Israelis than Palestinians ever did? Are you forgetting that in 1973 they attacked Israel first and came close to defeating the Israelis -- some American armor delivered right at the front was handy in stemming that disaster?

The Egyptians were enemy number one back then, and their aim, according to the Israelis, was to annihilate Israel. They are tolerably good neighbors now, after the peace was signed and all the land conquered in '67 was given back. A good model for the Palestinian-Israeli peace, don't you think?
