MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
March 7 — The House on Thursday approved a pared-down economic stimulus bill, sending it to the Senate which may vote on it Friday. The measure would extend unemployment benefits by 13 weeks beyond the current 26 weeks and provide an array of business tax breaks.

“The House did the right thing today and the Senate now needs to act. ... Get the bill to my desk, and I look forward to signing it,” President Bush said.

In addition to extending benefits for workers who have lost their jobs, the bill would provide a tax break for businesses that invest in new equipment.
