Applied Materials says antitrust probe is closed
NEW YORK, March 8 (Reuters) - A federal antitrust investigation into the technology licensing practices of Applied Materials Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMAT - news) has been closed, the world's largest maker of tools used to make microchips disclosed in its annual report.

Filed on Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the report said the U.S. Department of Justice notified the company on Feb. 25 that the investigation was closed.

Shares of Applied Materials rose $2.40, or nearly 5 percent, to $53.76 on Friday amid a strong day for chip equipment stocks.
