House prices have continued to rise at an average of 10+% yearly clip. That is clearly unsustainable and the end result could be a crash. It's not like it did not happen before. You mention the American "dream". In investing, stocks, homes, whatever, it is important to distinguish the "dream" from "reality" or else it turns into a "nightmare". And BTW, we did have a housing bubble before with the same ingredients we have now. It ended up quite badly for those that don't remember
