Tokyo, March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average rose, recording its biggest weekly gain in four years, led by computer-related exporters such as Advantest Corp., after U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said a recovery in Japan's largest trading partner is under way.

Greenspan's remarks ``confirm that the U.S. economy is firmly on the mend, which suggests an increase in production from Japanese high-tech companies,'' said Kiyohide Nagata, who helps manage about $283 million at Prudential Asset Management Japan Inc.

The Nikkei rose 1.2 percent to 11,793.29, bringing its gain for the week to 9 percent -- the biggest since November 1997. The Topix index added 0.6 percent to 1104.75, with computer-related companies the biggest contributors as a group. Brokerages including Nomura Holdings Inc. rose on expectations the stock market's rally will increase trading and bolster earnings.
