re: As far as retail business (US) AMD lost most of it before QuantiSpeed was introduced. Intel has ability to apply pressure to achieve certain goals (US market share), but it is like a in a balloon, the air (AMD processors) flow elsewhere.

They may have lost some before, but after they announced "QuantiSpeed", they did a complete disappearing act. Too much of a coincidence to ignore, the retailers and probably the OEM's didn't want to confuse the retail consumer.

And if Intel could apply that much pressure, how did AMD get into retail in the first place?
