I guess what's scary is the short term, where people with sensible points of view are being damaged by the markets. If you reward fools and punish the virtuous, you do terrible damage. Maybe it's a form of financial Phariseeism on my part, but I rejoice that my puts of the Dow and my calls on NEM run until 2004. I would hate to be sweating out option expiries over the next few months, and I am certainly happy not to have any short positions that could wipe me out.
