...OT...

Because there are so many tipped employees in Hawaii, we seem to have a disproportionate number of folks who try to "Opt-Out" of the Tax system in one form or another. They tend to be fringe-types who speak of conspiracy and obscure lawsuits and such.

The latest one I heard (I paraphrase) was that there is a reason why all legal and financial documents arrive in your mailbox with your name in all capital letters. There is, in essence, two you's: the all CAPS you, and the regularly spelled you. The all caps you is a miniature corporation as far as the government is concerned, a creation of the state from the time you are assigned a SS#. Among other things, the corporate (all caps) you can be legally taxed because he is quite literally the guarantor of the national debt. The regularly spelled you can sue the all caps you to divorce himself from indentured servitude and thereby free himself (in theory) from the burden of paying taxes and other so-called obligations.

The problem, as I see it, is that almost no one (except certain courts and other weirdos of the same stripe) understand the process or the ramifications, and so while technically free, virtually no one recognizes what you have done. So even if you pull the whole thing off, for the rest of your life you have to explain your way out of every legal and financial obligation there is, to people who are totally ignorant of your "different" form of citizenship.

Have anyone else ever heard of this?
