but you have to wonder why she would bother to go thru all this hassle

That's a good point to start! When she joined HP, the
PC business was already a loser, there was some challenge
from cartridge refillers (who merely changed their tactic
in light of the court judgement) to the cash cow, the
HPUX wasn't going gangbusters despite quality claims
over Solaris, and HP-services was something no one had
heard of. Pretty dismal, eh?

From day one, I'd submit, she knew exactly what she wanted.
Remember her slip when she said the merger was a result of
several years' careful planning? This was at odds with her
earlier claim that it grew out of a phone call from Mike
Capellas 2001 spring which was less than a year old. Ah,
Freud!

We know how that goes. Did you see Sanders the other
day, boldly predicting - in an interview with Maria B of
CNBC - the #1 spot for his baby over the coming decade...

Her base pay itself is pretty good; and consider the glory
of bypassing IBM - a feat not accomplished in nearly a half
century of carefully planned mergers & acquisitions...
