Well, it looks as though JC Dithers's proposal has met with some resistance.

Though if Poet has truly been away on a trip, I don't know whether she has seen it, so we don't know whether the response made to it reflects her views or not.

Perhaps that's something you can find out, since you seem to be in some communication with her.

Edit: This post is probably superceded by my later post suggesting a pause in all this for the time being.

Let me see whether I can summarize what I take to be the -- well, certainly not the Neo proposal, but perhaps the "What Neo thinks is reasonable" proposal. This is just roughed out preliminarily, but if it's way off track there's no point in trying to refine it.

Poet and I will both agree that as to our posting on SI:

1. We will not address posts directly to each other, and will not incorporate the URL of any of the other person's posts in any of our posts.
2. We will not talk directly about the other person (except a necessary to enforce this agreement). Directly about constituting referring to the other person by name or allusion, discussing any personal information about the other person, or directly discussing any points they have made in discussion by reference to any of their posts..
3. It is understood that we may both be engaging in discussion on the same topic on the same thread. If this happens, if we want to address a point or position which the other person has in some way adopted or supported, it must be done by reference to some other source -- another poster who has made the same point, a non-SI mention of the same idea, etc., not by direct or indirect reference to the other person's having taken that position.
4. If either of has quoted from a public source (a newspaper, magazine, web site, etc.) the other may quote from that material, but only by referring to the original source, not by referring to the other person's citing of it.
5. We will agree not to use surrogates to try to contravene the intent of this agreement, and will disavow and attempt to dissuade any attempts by others to do so on our behalf or in support of us.
6. We will ask the moderators of any thread on which either of us may want to post to accept this agreement and not moderate the other person off the thread as long as this agreement is being complied with.

Is that a reasonable start?
