They're doing it to teachers too. My wife retired and they were happy to see her go, even though they had no special ed credentialed teachers to replace her. Half the teachers don't even have a "teaching" credential. They were only interested in replacing her "salary" with those of a couple of new hires. Health insurance was extra although some retirees (maybe winning football coaches) had received it as part of their package. I still think this sounds bogus. If you're unhappy teaching in one district it's tough to transfer after some years go by. You're not allowed to transfer all your credits because districts have different contracts. Sounds like the old Teamsters deal. Did I mention they were excluded from social security benefits programs.
