I don't consider the VIX to be broken. If you are expecting the market to react immediately to extreme VIX levels, it will appear that way, but IMO that isn't how it should be used. The VIX waffled around in the low 20s for the three months leading into the decline last July/August/Sept. We are three months into the low 20s here. From Oct 1999 to April 2000, the VIX also bounced off of the low 20s until it finally spiked up when the market crashed in mid April 2000. I would never recommend panic reactions to the VIX, I just see it as a guide of where to be looking.

Wow no shares available to short on QLGC at Schwab Just tried to short and could only pick up a measly 100 shares. Confirmed it with a rep. You would think that after the last run there would be tons of shares. Hmmmm.... and Scwab is an Axe in QLGC.

Softie the VIX? Is it pissed off today or happy and grudgingly telling people waht to do. Yesterday someone posted that it doesn't work if too many people ware watching and using it. I can see why it would get pissed off and send peole the wrong way since it doesn't get paid very much and also no-one seems to pay it much atention or give it any really good publicity like they do the NAZ, S&P and the NAZ. They never get pissed off and they don't send people the wrong way and they don't seem to mind that most of the World watches them. I really don't like the VIX very much its ar too irritable. Tea leaves on the other hand never get pissed off and you can look at them without a braod band connection. BEst, L
