I didn't know Stanley was made in England. Came as a shock to me.

One place I won't buy from is Sears. In 1983 my wife bought me some tools for Christmas. We had moved that year and she gave them the new address. We were wondering why the bill hadn't come in January but thought it might be the Christmas rush.

Time passed and I got a frantic call in March about why we hadn't made a payment and I said it was because we hadn't gotten a bill. They had screwed up and had us moving from where we lived to our old address. By then $50 or so in interest had been added and I said fine and sent them a check for the balance in full. But it didn't end.

I got a bill in April for $10. I called. That was for the interest while the check was in the mail and being processed. But it didn't end.

In May I got a bill for like $1.50. I called. Yes they got the check on time but it hadn't been processed and entered so while it laid on a desk more interest was charged. I got the woman's name and sent her the check. It's been 18 years and I haven't bought one thing at Sears. They got their $60 they screwed me out of but lost probably $25,000 of my business.

Back in '74 or so the fair credit deal got passed. That meant the credit issuer wasn't responsible during any dispute between the seller and buyer. Sears split their credit department off into another company. That means if you charge $3,000 with them for a new appliance and they never deliver it you still owe the bill. Can we say consumer rip off?

Buy American (if possible) and buy locally if possible. Buying from relatives might be stretching it.
