But I've been all over the world with just carry-on.
Not any more. We used to fly down to Palm Springs with just carry-on all the time. Doesn't work now. Gotta use a suitcase.

It's also a culture shock to reach a point where you recognize that you can pay for first class tickets. As it turns out, as E said, my riches were temporary, so it is no longer an issue.

There was a time when flying "first" was a very affordable luxury. Then, airlines designated biz flyers the "golden geese" and plucked them without shame.

The leg room and perks are super BUT you gotta pay for a medium size family to fly to Disneyland for next to nothing every time you hit the road.

My wife sells a lot of travel to people who can afford the best. It astounds me that well-off middle aged and up couples will spend $10K for a 10-day overseas holiday and insist on the absolute lowest cost air regardless of the grief some of these flights bring.
