wouldn't that depend on how widespread such views (about when the growth will come) are, and hence the degree to which they might already be priced into the two stocks?

Possibly, but I doubt it. I really don't think the market prices stocks 3 - 4 years ahead of expectations in the case of Siebel or 8 years ahead in the case of Qualcomm.

Though I believe valuation is always important when making a buy decision, I'd eliminate a company as a potential stock purchase because of its growth fundamentals before bothering with a valuation. In other words, if I don't think the growth will be there I don't care what the valuation is.

It's just my approach.
