But, particularly for SMP, AMD's 20-way cache and star based architecture is less dependent on large caches than Intel's 8-way cache with shared bus architecture. And, in that period, AMD went from 0 SMP chipsets and 0 SMP motherboards to 2 SMP chipsets and 8 different SMP motherboards for AMD Athlon being shipped from 6 different manufacturers.
