Funny you should mention CRDS; I was hesitating with my finger over the 'buy' on Friday, first time on CRDS. Didn't do it, but thinking about it.

Crossroads gear might be involved in such an environment, though Marketwatch indicates their gear is weighted towards S/390 (System 390, IBM mini-computer). Brokerages are more typically mainframe backends (databases and trading system) with Unix/Windows subsystems and front ends, I believe.

More central to the question IMO would be the tape storage systems employed, technology and configuration, in terms of speed of restore.

Anyway, want to look more at CRDS.
