<Ex-dividend on tax day. In the U.S., a hassle in anything other than retirement accounts?>

Hi, Rick, if that's a real query: I think that the characterization of a stock dividend for US Federal income tax purposes is that it is tax-free to the holder. Since there is no distribution of cash, it is not a taxable dividend. The stock dividend is simply treated as increasing the number of slices (shares) of the same size pie--you retain the same proportional interest in the enterprise. I am not a tax lawyer, accountant or adviser and don't have an IRC Section to cite, but I believe the above to be accurate.

Thanks (just a periodic installment payment) for all your input,

quid

Devil's Advocate position:

Lack of liquidity causes a significant haircut in the market cap of this stock. What fund wants to invest in this micro cap knowing that a decent size investment will cause a leap in price - and any attempt to exit will cause a panic (classic roach motel).

Management - with the exception of the last two quarters, the historical financial statements are not very exciting. Who knows what management is capable of? Is someone's idiot son gonna be named president? Could they decide to use corporate funds to buy rental properties in Florida? small closely-held companies are famous for rotten sweatheart deals and plainly stupid moves caused by insulated management.

Disclosure: I am long nbsc.
