I don't remember if any of the biotechies are MDs,
but I'll post this here anyway:

Miriel, our two year old, may be having a nephrectomy
to remove the multicystic dysplastic kidney, in about
a month. The surgeon will also be checking on a few
other things, ovarian cysts which are going the wrong
way, and fluid in the uterus.

I've already been to my GP to ask--hey, what questions
should we be asking the urologist/surgeon before we
do this...and naturally we will run all our questions
by our pediatrician.

Naturally the main question--is it neccessary? I think
it is not a bad idea, naturally biopsy everything for
Wilms tumor, and find what is going on with the uterus,
if it isn't just an imperforate etc. They'll start with
the vaginoscopy and the cystoscopy before deciding on
the main surgery naturally.

My GP said, it is after RSV season, so that is one
less infection to worry about in the hospital. He
didn't have alot to say other than Wilms is very
treatable etc. We are not actually freaked out about
the probability of cancer--chances are, just boring,
annoying, benign cysts--the main thing is they're
not resolving, so although M was checked for reflux,
maybe the MDK has a tiny amount of function, which
of course is bad.

Miriel's urologist is very good from what we here,
one of the main guys here in Seattle. Also, the
radiology dept at Children's is very good--we are there
every six months, and you can be sure they have been
knocking themselves out to generate good films of all
the cystic structures.

M's good Kidney kicks ass, no worries, just no tackle
football of course!

Oh, finally, Miss M has the flu or something today,
geeze, what can you give them that they will keep
down? That has to be the worst, watching toddlers
vomit, poor thing--water is the only thing that
doesn't immediately come back up.
