the little I've read of Keller's writing has left me uninterested in his work.

I agree. Quite frankly, the Times practice of giving its reporters and editors op-ed columns instead of golden parachutes is getting embarrassing. (Although perhaps it always was and I just didn't notice.) I mean, Keller and Kristof are eminently skippable, no? Not particularly biased or offensive, just boring--no real reason to waste the time it takes to read them.

That said, I had to read the piece for professional reasons. It wasn't bad. For an interesting comparison, however, put the Keller piece and the April Atlantic next to the May/June FA (when it comes); Keller, Kelly, and Fallows (the latter two in the Atlantic) write on defense transformation, airpower, and the military lessons of the Afghan war. All are journalists. The same topics are treated in the next FA, but by experts. It will be interesting to see what if any differences people find and what they think about them.
