The problem with Democrats is, of course, the "herding cats" issue.

Ralph Nader was over in Eugene, OR on Friday, yapping about how all of us progressives need to move immediately to the Green Party. I beg to differ. Nader was very effective in the 1970's with his PIRGs, however, today the issue is to collect as much of the middle of the electorate as possible in order to be effective, rather than to be ideologically pure and elected office poor. His no compromise attitude is very counterproductive to achieving even a minimal number of his worthy goals. And I do believe most of them are worthwhile, if perhaps somewhat quixotic in view of the nature of the American public's puerile lack of concern for anything more noble than self-gratification and gross materialism.
