Of course, it is PR and marketing. Getting a better time to market is always preferable over waiting. Intel already has designs from Dell, IBM, and Toshiba, and that's more than enough to initiate an official launch announcement. If Compaq and HP and Gateway take longer to design their laptops, that is not Intel's fault. If IBM, Dell, and Toshiba simply beat them to market, and Intel was ready with their chip, why not launch? Yet this also tends to conflict with the fact that more than 3 months later, there and still no production parts. In fact, I'm sure you've read The Inquirer, which mentions that motherboard manufacturers will receive Thoroughbred samples on the 20th of this month. theinquirer.net That kind of suggests that they haven't received samples, yet. Dell, IBM, and Toshiba will let you place an order for a Pentium 4-M laptop without listing an ETA date. If you are still skeptical, maybe you should try buying a laptop, and tell us when you receive it. wbmw
