One of the things that killed steel in the US was Japan buying our scrap and recycling it back to us in usable form. Then again the Edmund Fitzgerald was hauling Taconite pellets across the Great Lake at not too high of a cost from the Mesabi Range.

That hole at Virginia was really impressive to a flatlander like me and I saw the Edmund Fitzgerald in September of '75. It looked like nothing could sink her.

Did you see where after 9/11 the mob was hauling steel from the WTC to the mob run recycling plant? The city stopped them and at the time was hauling all the steel to a dump.
