Maybe calling him a liar would be too strong, cos he is always careful with his words. It is quite possible for him to say "We are beginning to see signs that maybe the economic recovery is well under way" while he knows damned well that the economy is likely to get worse.

That scenario would make him deceitful, without being a liar.

Real GDP grew at 0.28% last quarter, when hedonic pricing is not used. That is probably less than inflation. Greenspan prefers to quote the 1.4% annualised hedonic number.
