What makes you think anyone knows the truth? No one who knows the real truth is going to post it for all to see

Hey, Alien, what are you doing wasting your time here? You should be down at your Airport, hard at work, collecting money for Lyndon LaRouche.

History has proven that is not true! Using DU rounds against Iraq's was a cheap and easy way to shoot sitting ducks in heavy armor. Except my friend now has so much health problems he can barely take care of himself.

Well, Alientick... The World Health Organization seems to disagree with both yourself and the link you provided:

who.int

Thus, it's quite likely that your friends health conditions might be attributable to other factors, or the fact that DU dust bears the same level of general toxicity as lead, and exposure over a long period of time (similar to uranium mining) is generally required.

However, DU generally passes through the digestive system whereas I believe lead tends to lodge in tissues. Or so the scientists say.

Btw, considering that Uranium has been mined in large quantities for decades now, and that generates considerable dust, it would seem likely that we'd see similar health problems in miners exposed for only a couple of weeks (there is evidence that exposure to raw non-depleted U-238 has created health problems after long-term exposure). In fact, scientists believe that radon exposure in Uranium mines is more likely the culprit of any evidence health problems for miners.

Personally, I believe the general "rumour" that some chemical weapons were accidentally "demilled" or destroyed in the general bombing during the campaign, unleashing a diluted chemical fog around the battlefield.

But DU is just what the name implies.. Depleted of radioactivity (actually lower than naturally occurring Uranium which has a half-life in the billions of years.

Hawk

i would ask you the same.

but before we challenge our front line munitions and blame the world's ills on the ammo we shoot...have you considered iraq's development, related accidental releases, and use of weapons of mass destruction? and have you ever visited an active oilfield?...the chemicals laying around would make anyone sick. there were a helluva lot of different chemical exposures in kuwait and iraq.

a helluva lot of vietnam vets die everyday right now...but the vast majority never got within a 100 miles of agent orange. death happens.

and by the way...it was not shooting ducks...it was two armies, one of which had great morale having just conquered a neighbor. both were well-equipped with plenty of ammo and fuel. in the end all combat and wars come down to a man to man fight. our man won.
