If I had seen your remark that you weren't friends I would have understood that even in the narrow sense I had in mind, on friendly terms, you were not friends. I didn't read your exchanges except a series of very friendly-seeming ones beginning at the first. After I read those, I simply noted them in the posts list. I assume it's there you said you weren't friends with him? I saw "See you later" kinds of posts. "Friends" as used on SI can mean real friends, or it can mean cordial cyberpals. Either meaning would be fine for a mediator. You said to me, "Silence on matters you do not understand is probably better than trying to manufacture facts." That is most assuredly calling me a liar (someone who tries to manufacture facts being a liar), but I accept your explanation and modification.
