As the speed of light, which is assumed a constant, isn't; nor never has been.

Well the special and general theories of relativity say the speed of light is a constant in vacu.

speed = distance covered/time

But time is a weird thing. Those linear ideas are OK when linear. The guys who wrote the bible probably made a few simplifications, just so as we normal folks could understand it...hopefully -g-

The speed of light is the upper limit of the speed of matter in the U-verse.

However in the Z-verse, inhabited by Z-vians, things can go faster. If two people are travelling at 60% of the speed of light and go by each other in the Z-verse, they measure each other's speed only in terms of themselves being stationary. Relativity is the only framework of measurement and thus must rule observation. Zardoz, the Zvian takes out his stopwatch, makes some hasty calculations and nods sagely. The Zvian who just rocketed past his space platform, was travelling at 1.2 times the speed of light. Fortunately for Zardoz, he was keeping his rocket in the low percent of that limit. With a few more scribbles Zardoz smiles wryly. He told them Zvians about speeding. Once you pass the speed of light, time starts to travel backwards. At that rate, Zardoz knew the unfortunate travellers, who by this time were 24,000,000 miles away, would be days old. Within a few hours they would be sperm cells and then would disappear from history. Zardoz knew that the penalty for exceeding the light limit was a harsh one, but necessary if the Z-verse was to keep order in this part of the quadrant.

Zardoz took out a rattle and shook it. He was feeling playful, and started to twist the mobile above his crib. As long as he could remember, he had liked that mobile. Now if his mum would only come back and feed him, he would be happy. Soon it would be nap time.
