Fallows has been on this particular beat for a while.

actually, he was on it back then, when he was a big "military reform" type, then left it, and now has come back for a drop by. You can tell that, because his new Atlantic piece is basically, "I had a chat with my old military reform colleague William Lind about the war in Afghanistan, and here's what he said." Keller, in his NYT Mag piece, adds an interesting tidbit that Fallows doesn't--that in the intervening years, Lind has become something of a nutcase, and actually seems to have advocated using nukes...
