Asian Stocks: Japan's Topix at 6 1/2-Month High; Taiwan Gains

Tokyo, March 11 (Bloomberg) -- Japan's Topix stock index climbed to a 6 1/2-month high, led by Toyota Motor Corp. and other exporters after the U.S. added more jobs than expected, fueling expectations demand from their biggest market will rise.

``The U.S. economy has been showing a powerful recovery, which has a positive impact on exporters,'' said Yasuo Ishizuka, who helps manage $2.8 billion of Japanese equities at Kokusai Asset Management Co. He plans to buy computer-related companies once their share prices decline.

The Topix added 0.3 percent to 1111.80, its highest since Aug. 30, while the Nikkei 225 stock average shed 0.6 percent to 11,810.49. Drugmakers such as Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd. were the biggest drag on the market as investors shifted funds into companies that are more likely to benefit from a U.S. recovery.

The U.S. employment report also sent Singapore's Straits Times Index 0.4 percent higher. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. led the TWSE Index up 2.5 percent on optimism the government will soon allow chipmakers to invest in China. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.02 percent as Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd. dropped on concern the developer may report a 40 percent decline in first-half earnings tomorrow.

Tito, what is you down step to this yoyo ladder? The bull support line is at $43 but I do not believe it will have that kind of pull back with the maximum pain at $47.50.

Another, concern that I am having is it appears that the Bush Administration and media is preparing us to invade Iraq. If that happens in April then we will see a major drop in prices.

Just my opinions.
