I'm not a religious zealot and don't even attend church regularly. I do, however, count
myself a Christian and embrace the Christian belief in forgiveness as the one single ethic that
will save the world from that which you so fear

What makes Christianity any more unique than all other religions? Most of them preach love & forgiveness but unfortunately, religious zealots seem to have difficulty actually putting them into practice when challenged.

"count myself a Christian and embrace the Christian belief in forgiveness as the one single ethic..."

With all due respect, "embracing ....one single ethic" will never "save" the world of anything. Christianity is NOT about ethics, but a about God becoming man and dying for the sins of man, and then being raised for our justification. Christianity is about a living God who took on human flesh and gave himself for the sins of the world so that man could be free from the power of Satan, free from the power of sin and spiritual death, and reconciled to God. Jesus Chrsit has taken the sins of mankind upon himself and given us HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. The righteousness of the Christian is not a righteousness of ethics and following laws, but a righteousness of faith in and through Christ.

All other religions of the world have "ethics", human rules, and mental steps to achieve a Nirvana! Christianity has the living Christ, a living saviour, NOT the dead letter of laws or the deadness of rules and regulations. Christianity is NOT a philosophy of self-improvement (although that is one of the consequences of faith in Christ) but a trust in the living God! God simply demands faith and trust in the living Christ for forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
