Some clips from Hammer Article

... AMD is planning to release the first member of Hammer family at 2 or 2.4 GHz. Clawhammer will be produced with SOI technology, probably in the Dresden factory. This technology will also be used in Athlons, which are going to be produced in 0,13 m. According to estimations, Athlon can increase its core speed up to 3 GHz with that technology..

FAB30 of AMD in Dresden will be the new source of AMD for its processors. The factory in Dresden is working at 40% right now, leaving a room for Hammers. The time that is used for producing a Hammer is approximately 2.5 times longer than the time needed for an Athlon production. This grants us that the Hammer’s price will be a number in four digits or a number close to a four digit number. The first Hammer processor, ClawHammer will be released with 1 MB of L2 cache. On Itanium this number is 4 MB.

..The processor will be able to run WinXP and Linux, since both MS and Linux distributors like RedHat and SuSE are working closely with AMD. Also it is expected that Sun will release a new version of Solaris since it has a code running on x86 architecture. But it is sure that the metamorphosis from 32 bit to 64 bit will be less painful than the one from 16 bit to 32 bits...
