Giuliani for VP?

Rudy for vice president?

That's what some Republicans are saying about the former New York City mayor in the wake of his recent successes.

Giuliani has "party insiders talking about him as George W. Bush's running mate in 2004 if Dick Cheney does not run for vice president," according to columnist Robert Novak.

Giuliani, Time magazine's "Person of the Year," wowed the crowd at a Wednesday night Washington, D.C., fund raiser, where he presented himself as "a conservative Republican," according to Novak.

Under normal circumstances, talk about nominating the pro-abortion, pro-gay-rights ex-mayor would guarantee conservative opposition.

But Giuliani's success is helping conservative Bill Simon defeat liberal Republican Richard Riordan for California's gubernatorial nomination - combined with his post-9/11 status as a national hero - make him one of the party's most-attractive potential candidate.
