If Verizon continues to overlay their CDMa networks, how do they change the mix of the existing base stations between 1X and 1XEV DO? I think you have already answered the question by stating that the CSM chips can do either 1X or 1XEV DO on the same chipset.

I guess this would be represented by the flexibility of the CSM5500.

<Designed expressly for maximum data throughput, the CSM5500 Cell Site Modem™ (CSM™) device supports data rates that exceed data performance provided by 3G voice technologies such as WCDMA and 1x, providing up to 2.4 Megabits per second (Mbps) peak data rates whilst maintaining compatibility with existing cdmaOne and 1x networks.

The CSM5500 device is a multi-mode digital baseband modem for infrastructure and test equipment that supports the CDMA development Group (CDG) 1x Evolution Data only (1xEV-DO) standard, the Phase 1 migration path for cdmaOne™ and 1x high data rates. The CSM5500 chipset is a pin-compatible replacement for the existing QUALCOMM 1xEV-DO Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)-based solution, offering substantial cost and power savings.

CSM5500 chipset-based 1xEV-DO access is expected to enable a whole new generation of high-speed data applications such as streaming video, other multimedia applications and mobile commerce, as well as greatly enhancing existing wireless Internet access data rates.>

I'm confused if there are different channel cards for 1X and 1XEV DO in the same base station.
