the chief research scientist of VAXGen is a guy who was involved in all the seminal work regarding retro-fitting protein layers upon new strain mutation discovery
cannot think of his name
but VAXGen's vaccine was in Phase3 back in the summer
they wanted fasttrack approval, but were denied
wanted ft approval due to "multiplier effect"

I wonder what key scientific advantages will produce the first vaccine
whoever is first wins in this race

the Gates Foundation has promised $5-6 billion for a worldwide vaccination
that is a lot of topline sales numbers
(but they must each prove purchase of MSWindows latest release, JUST KIDDING)

my understanding is the winner for HIV vaccine will very likely provide a cavalcade of other winners using the same research techniques
e.g. herpes, malaria
