Remember the 100% tariff Ronald Reagan put on foreign motorcycles to save harley davidson? That tax doubled the cost of buying a motorcycle overnight....how many jobs did that save and at what cost to the consumers of non harley products? That is certainly an example of tariffs costing many to save a few.

How much better would the average Japanese's lifestyle be if they were allowed to consume our agricultural products without the added burdens unfair of tariffs to protect that uncompetitive part of their economy? Their standard of living could certainly be higher.

Tariffs raise prices and promote inefficiencies...and that is not arguable.
