8:40AM: The futures are pointing to a lower open on negative analyst comments and corporate news...Goldman Sachs' Rick Sherlund believes that although Microsoft's (MSFT 64.34) current qtr is probably on track, but he expects the co's guidance for the next fiscal year to be conservative and maybe below the Street consensus...Nokia (NOK 23.50) trades off as much as 5% in Europe after company warned that a sharper than expected decline in network equipment revenue will cause sales to disappoint. Also, Lucent (LU 6.26) is warning once again. Expect weakness is ADCT, NT...
And if all that's not enough, WorldCom (WCOM 9.01) said it has received SEC request for voluntary production of documents. Merrill Lynch downgrades as a result...Nothing on the economic calendar today....Current indications: S&P 500 futures are -9.9, or 10.9 pts below fair value. Nasdaq 100 is -29, or 34 pts below fair value. Nas 100 PMI -35.
