Globe says CRS Robotics cooks on Thermo bid

Tue 12 Mar 2002

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, March 12, edition that CRS
Robotics soared almost 52 per cent or $1.94 (Canadian) to $5.69 (Canadian)
Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange after Thermo Electron, the biggest
maker of measurement instruments for medical laboratories, agreed to buy
the Canadian company at $5.75 (Canadian) a share, a deal that could total
about $67-million (Canadian). Thermo Electron also will assume about
$3.3-million (U.S.) in CRS debt, said Thermo Electron spokesperson Caroline
Grossman. CRS had 2001 sales of about $28-million (Canadian). Thermo
Electron will start a tender offer for CRS stock March 21. Shares of Thermo
Electron, which also makes measuring instruments for food, manufacturing
and beverage industries, fell 30 U.S. cents to $20.65 (U.S.) on the New
York Stock Exchange Monday.
